Evaluation

Evaluation of my website

Before I began looking into what goes into a website I had to establish a client to create the website for. Once I established my client which was my dad who has an interest in writing scripts so I decided to develop a website where he could promote his scripts and help others in need in developing visual pieces who do not have a narrative. I then began looking into the percentages of people who are script writers and the age they average. This meant when I would begin developing my website I would have a target audience that I am aiming to hit. After creating this target audience that are mainly 35-40 year old script writers in need of a script narrative prompt. Now I had my idea and target audience I had to conduct research into other websites and see how they promote their intended use. For example most websites have a contact page and I need to be aware how secure websites have the website visitors contact them. I looked at the Sainsbury website where they feature several types of ways to contact such as e-mail, social media, letter etc. I felt that the most appropriate forms of contact in my website were social media, e-mail, Call as I felt they were the most reliable forms of contact and easiest to respond to. After securing a suitable form of contact between visitors and my client I had to look into websites that perform similar actions to the one I was going to create. I visited a website where they provided the scripts for films that have already been released. The website was laid out very simply as it didn’t need to be aesthetically pleasing as it had one purpose. The website did use roll overs for the menu’s which I decided I will use in my site as they add more interest and provide a prompt showing that your actually selecting that part of the website.
Before formulating my website on Adobe Muse I drew out a home page and subpages to brief what I was going to do when using Muse. I outlined where slideshows will be and how they will be setup in terms of the different pages. My banners were displayed here also. For my banners and buttons I had to use Adobe Photoshop. I used Photoshop so I would be able to create roll over layers for certain buttons. I wasn’t very familiar with creating rollovers so in my website some buttons don’t have the roll over effect. If I was to improve my skills in Photoshop then I would to add more aesthetically pleasing features in the website. This may have been the case also for Adobe Muse as I had never used the program before however I attempted to create a colour theme and use the widget library to its potential. For example I implemented a button in the top left of each page to provide a direct link to the home page from wherever you are in the website. Also, from the widget library I used the simple contract from the form drop-down which allowed people that visited the website to easily contact the client. The website consists of the home page, about us, and contact with other subpages. I feel the most effective page was the genre subpage that gave visitors the most content to interact with. The slide shows on each genre provide a moving visual aspect to the page and is very simply there to give you more context to what sort of script you will be looking for. My contact page was effective in conveying the phone number shown by a rollover and the Facebook button provides a link to message the client.
When previewing my website it runs smoothly however the drop down menu is not as I wanted and I didn’t get to add any smoother more aesthetically pleasing types of drop down. The website even though it may not provide an advanced design it performs how I wanted it to and meets what the client wanted.
